If you or your child is part of a sports team then you know how much work the coach does to help each player grow and to lead the team to success.
It is important to let the coach know how much you appreciate him or her, and here are some tips to help you do it.
Write a Thank You Note to Your Coach
Writing a thank you note is easier than you might think. Here are some tips to keep in mind.
Keep it short. A few paragraphs are usually sufficient. Of course, if you feel the need to write a longer note that is fine too.
Handwritten is best. While so many people are now sending their thank you notes via text or email, neither can beat the personal touch of a hand-written note.
If possible, mail the note to the coach's home or office. If not, it is acceptable to hand the coach the note before or after a game or practice.
Sample Thank You Notes to a Coach
Below are two sample thank you notes. One from the parent of a child who was on the coach's team and the other is directly from child to coach.
From parent of child on the team
Dear Coach (name of coach),
You have been such an amazing influence on my daughter this year. She was hesitant about trying soccer, but I am so glad she did. You have helped her to grow both as a player and in her overall level of confidence.
Your sincere concern for each of your players is obvious, and I can only hope that you will be back again next year.
From child on the team
I wanted to thank you for helping me become a better football player and for making sure that I kept my schoolwork first. You were tough on me, but I am glad. It helped me play better than I did last year.
I will always remember this year, and I hope you will be my coach again next season.
A Few Great Thank You Quotes
You don't have to necessarily include a quote in your thank you note to a coach, but here a few really good ones just in case.
"A truly special teacher is very wise, and sees tomorrow in every child's eyes."
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires."
William A. Ward
"What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches"
"No one who achieves success does so without acknowledging the help of others. The wise and confident acknowledge this help with gratitude."
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."
Another great way to thank your coach is with a thank you poem.
Here is a great coach thank you poem that was submitted by one of our readers.
For a coach who saw more in me,
More than I thought I could ever be,
Who taught me to discipline
This mind and the body I'm in,
Who raised expectations and dreams,
Beyond just an athlete's schemes,
Beyond normal endurance,
Beyond myself, and ever since,
I'm a greater man for it,
Because you taught me not to quit.
